What they learn
More than takedowns and guard passes
Jiu Jitsu gives kids real self-defence skills — but more importantly, it gives them character.
Confidence
Shy kids find their voice. Real confidence comes from doing hard things — and doing them again.
Control and focus
High-energy kids learn control. Every class follows the same clear flow: warm-up, technique, drills, then rolling.
Resilience
On the mat, it is okay to struggle, to lose and to make mistakes. What matters is showing up again.
Respect
Respect for coaches and training partners is part of the culture, and it goes home with them.
Real self-defence
How to fall, get back up and stay calm under pressure — so they can stand up for themselves without fear.

Competing
Mikado kids on the podium

In August 2026 our young athletes stepped onto the international stage at Grappling Industries Kuala Lumpur, competing against kids from academies across the region and bringing home wins and medals.
Zargham, Shaheryar’s very first student, became the first Mikado kid to compete for the gym. Competing is never required — but the door is open for every kid who wants to test themselves.

Questions parents ask
Anything else? Message us on WhatsApp — we’re happy to talk it through.
How old does my child need to be?
Kids classes start at 3. Children train in two age groups, 3 to 5 and 6 to 12, each with its own class times — see the kids timetable above.
My child has never done a martial art. Can they join?
Yes. Book a trial class on WhatsApp, tell us your child’s age, and we’ll suggest the right class for them.
Is Jiu Jitsu safe for kids?
Classes are led by a black belt coach with international experience teaching children, in a clean, secure and friendly room. One of the first things kids learn is how to fall safely, get back up and stay calm under pressure.
Can I watch my child’s class?
Yes. Parents are welcome to stay and watch their child train.
What does a kids class look like?
Every class follows the same clear flow: warm-up, technique, drills, then rolling. Classes are short and high-energy, grouped by age.
My child is shy, or very energetic. Is Jiu Jitsu right for them?
Often, yes. Shy kids find their voice as they build real confidence, and high-energy kids learn control and focus. Respect for coaches and training partners is part of every class.
Do kids earn belts?
Yes. Kids move up through the belts as they progress, and we celebrate every promotion. The first two kids to ever join Mikado are now grey belts.
Does my child have to compete?
No. Competing is never required. The door is open for kids who want to test themselves — our young athletes have competed at Grappling Industries Kuala Lumpur.
What should my child wear and bring?
Tell us which class your child is coming to when you book, and we’ll let you know what to wear and bring, and whether they need a gi.
